Healing DETOX DIET for Mind, Body, & Spirit
What is DETOX DIET?

    [What is a detoxification therapy?]

The exposure to toxic chemicals is a large source of toxic buildups throughout the body. Toxins can include perfume, alcohol, cigarette smoke, pesticides, mercury, food additives, oral contraceptives, and cleaning supplies. Toxins are transformed chemically to less harmful compounds that can be excreted via stools or urine. After years of exposure to these substances, often the body can no longer keep up with eliminating these substances and they recirculate in the bloodstream, get stored in the liver, body fat and many other parts of the body.
Detoxification therapy is the oldest treatment known to humans and is a completely natural process; and in many cases, as we listen to our inner guidance, we may learn to apply this process to many illnesses and states of discomfort health to our life. Detox is the natural, ongoing process of neutralizing and eliminating potentially harmful compounds (called toxins) from the body.

[Why do we need to detox? ]

Our bodies are able to detoxify chemicals without help. However, many experts believe that the enormous number of chemicals we ingest daily through food, water, and the environment can accumulate. The buildup, called the toxic burden or body burden, can overwhelm the body's capacity to detoxify and may lead to hormonal imbalance, nutritional deficiency, and inefficient metabolism. Initially, there may be subtle warning signs, such as fatigue, poor skin, and pain, but over time, it is believed to lead to disease.

[What is a detox diet? ]

A detox diet is thought to strengthen organs involved in detox and promote the excretion of stored toxins through the organs of elimination: the skin, intestines, liver, lungs, kidneys and lymphatic system. Usually, a detox program includes a special detox formula, herbs and supplements, exercise, Yoga and far-infrared sauna.

The Process of Detox Fasting:

Clarity of thought and dramatically enhanced energy are common experiences in fasting. Enhanced sensory perception is common. Digestive processes are minimized so salivary glands, stomach, gall bladder, pancreas, liver and intestines are given a rest. Since few toxins enter the cellular environment only stored waste needs to be removed. Energy for detoxification is provided through juice constituents and body stores of fat and protein. With the digestive system working at a bare minimum, cleansing and rejuvenation can be initiated. Fasting speeds the process of toxin elimination from the colon, kidney, lung, sinus, and skin. This process can generate mucous and toxic discharge from the gastrointestinal, respiratory or urinary system. Skin changes (good and bad) frequently accompany fasting. Being emotionally prepared for periods of high and low energy is always wise. Resting and spending time quietly alone can be of great benefit in this regard. Detox diets are thought to prevent chronic diseases, such as arthritis, heart disease, and cancer.

Benefits of Detox Fasting

  • People who try the detox diet often find it can improve toxicity symptoms such as fatigue, joint pain, headache, pain, premenstrual syndrome, unhealthy skin, poor concentration, anxiety and irritability, frequent colds, heartburn, constipation, and gas.
  • Detox diets may be recommended as part of a supervised treatment plan for chronic disease such as autoimmune disease, multiple chemical sensitivity, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, digestive disorders, heart disease, hypertension and arthritis.
